Henry Regnery (1912- ) received his B.S. degree from Massachusetts Institute Of Technology in 1934 and an M.A. degree from Harvard in 1938. Between 1934 and 1936 he studied at the University of Bonn in Germany. He was the founder in 1947 of the Henry Regnery Company (president, 1947-1966; chairman of the board, 1967-1977); in 1977 he founded Gateway Editions, Ltd., Book Publishers, now Regnery/Gateway, Inc., of which he is president. He is the author of Memoirs of a Dissident Publisher (1979). To read about his Publication of Russell Kirk's The Conservative Mind (1953) is to see the commitment of an independent publisher of serious literature and his "thoroughly admirable dissent" - dissent that also led him, with Russell Kirk and David S. Collier, to help found Modern Age.
