St. Francis of Assisi
1182 - 1226

Italian monk, a.k.a. Francesco Guiovanni di Bernardone, who gave up a life of luxury in a wealthy family to travel and preach. His affinity for nature and animals became legendary before he founded the Franciscan Order (The Order of the Friars of Saint Francis) in 1209 to minister in the slums outside the walled cities of Europe.


Lord grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
