St. Bernard
1090 - 1153

French Cistercian monk, founder and Abbot of the celebrated monastery of Clairvaux. Bernard founded numerous other monasteries as he travelled on the authority of Pope Eugene III throughout France and Germany as a church diplomat and problem-solver. He was a prominent figure of the 12th century, and author of numerous theological and spiritual works, including 86 sermons on the Canticle of Canticles. He is the patron saint of beekeepers and chandlers.
