Garrett Fitzgerald
1926 -

Irish politican, leader of the Fine Gael party and Taoiseach (prime minister) of Ireland for most of 1981-1987. Fitzgerald was formerly minister of foreign affairs, a professor of political economy and an Irish Times columnist. He was a key architect, with Margaret Thatcher, of the Anglo-Irish Agreement of 1985. Author of All in a Life: An Autobiography.
