John Paul Jones

American revolutionary naval hero who terrorized England and Scotland in bold sea raids. Jones famously refused to surrender his ship "Bonhomme Richard" to British attackers when he appeared to be defeated at the Battle of Flamborough Head, and in persisting won the battle and sailed away on the British ship he defeated.
